Effort to bring HIPPY back to the Bay Area

Linda Frank, board chair of HIPPY USA  and NCJW leader, is working to bring the program back to the Bay Area.

HIPPY USA (Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters) began as a division of NCJW in 1988, before it spun off as a solo nonprofit. It employs home visitors recruited from the community to train parents to work with a curriculum of books and activities geared to preparing the children with the reading and math skills they will need to start school.

HIPPY operated in San Francisco from about 1998 to 2006, and the NCJW San Francisco Section augmented the program through the contribution of Kaboodle Kits. We look forward to an exciting reemerging collaboration with HIPPY!

Nancy Kirshner-Rodriguez is now the Executive Director of the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls!

On August 8, 2014, Geena Davis, Academy Award-Winning Actor and Commission Chair announced the appointment to the press. 

Nancy (left) has been instrumental in the building of our local anti-trafficking collaborations. She co-chaired the San Francisco Collaborative Against Human Trafficking in her position of Director of Government Affairs for Mayors Gavin Newsom and Edwin Lee. She is currently serving on the Steering Committees of SFCAHT and the Jewish Coalition to End Human Trafficking.

Einat Bauman was appointed Commissioner to the Santa Clara’s Commission on the Status of Women

Our Israel Committee Chair, Einat Bauman, was appointed Commissioner to the Santa Clara County’s Commission on the Status of Women. The Commission works on various areas of improving the lives of women, children, and families such as minimum wage, development and outreach.

We look forward to Einat’s achievements in this important position. Congratulations Einat!
