NCJW Washington Institute 2019

April 7-9, 2019

The NCJW San Francisco delegation attended Washington Institute 2019 to learn from experts, strengthen our advocacy skills, connect with activists from across the country, and storm Capitol Hill to meet with our lawmakers and their staff on critical issues.

This year’s Washington Institute showcased advocacy programs and efforts from across the country. This Advocacy Showcase was an opportunity to highlight an advocacy program or initiative and present it to our peers in a marketplace of ideas. It was also a chance to view the amazing efforts of our network and gather ideas of programs, projects, and legislative advocacy that we can implement back home.

We were pleased to have the opportunity to showcase the Human Trafficking Awareness Teen Poster and Writing Contest.

A delegation of Israeli feminists also attended Washington Institute 2019 and we benefited from hearing about their experiences and advocacy.

The NCJW San Francisco delegation went to Capitol Hill to lobby for qualified and diverse judicial nominations, gun violence prevention, voting rights, and abortion access.

We met with the offices of Senator Dianne Feinstein, Senator Kamala Harris, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to express our views on these important issues.

We heard from incredible speakers including Former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp, and former President of Planned Parenthood Cecile Richards.
